An exchange of ideas
The fourth, two-day RadComms conference organised by the ACMA, provided an opportunity to hear the latest spectrum developments, participate in open forums and exchange ideas with radio communications professionals from across industry and government.
Panel sessions were a feature of the event, allowing open discussion on contemporary and evolving spectrum issues.
Speakers from both government and industry covered a wide range of topics including:
- Industry perspectives on spectrum management;
- Defence spectrum needs;
- Smart grids;
- Digital dividend and 2.5 GHz allocation;
- Future of free to air television.
The ACMA looked back over the last five years but also looked to the future in a presentation called ‘What’s Facing Us’ by Andrew Kerans. Views on access to the spectrum were put forward by several speakers, including the Department of Defence and Telstra, who considered licensing.
Smart infrastructure came up for discussion as did smart grids.
Mobile radio, including the demands for spectrum by broadband devices, was discussed by an ACMA speaker, and the prospect of 50 billion connected devices that could be leading to the support for the next decade of wireless growth was put forward by Ericsson Australia.
