Since its incorporation in 2007, the Australian Radio Communications Industry Association (ARCIA) has worked hard to bring the industry together, to focus on common initiatives and issues that will strengthen the industry and prepare it for future growth and increasing demand for business-essential communications.

Particularly over the last year 2009-2010, the association has achieved much for its members and the industry at large.

Of significance, ARCIA has proactively worked with educators, regulators, government and industry partners to achieve outcomes for the long-term benefit of the industry and ARCIA’s loyal membership.

Significant highlights include:

  • Acceptance by the ACMA of ARCIA’s alternatives for a harmonised government band in the 400 MHz band plan by presenting independent ideas and a depth of experience for a better outcome;
  • Participation in ACMA Radio Communications Consultative Committee and Standards Australia RC4 and RC6 - designed to shape standards that affect our industry;
  • Expanding ARCIA scholarship program that offers three student scholarships in cooperation with Tait Radio Communications and RadioComms Asia-Pacific magazine;
  • Representation on the RMIT Industry Adviser panel;
  • Sponsoring RMIT ENGenius Trade fair 09 for inspiring young engineers;
  • Organising the industry gala dinner, allowing professional industry networking and peer recognition;
  • The ARCIA Industry Excellence Awards recognising and rewarding star achievers in the industry.

ARCIA has increased its membership significantly with manufacturers, service providers, system developers, consultants and distribution organisations across most states and territories.

It has state representatives in place to support local needs and issues that ARCIA can address at a federal level. Large users, other technology associations and government bodies are joining ARCIA to support the development and strength of the industry at large.

We urge those within the industry who have not joined to talk to a local representative or contact anyone on the committee. All activities, contacts and programs are published regularly on the website www.arcia.org.au.
