Decision delayed for SKA project
The plan to build the SKA, said to be the world's most powerful radio telescope, has had further delays as the international consortium decides whether it should be built in South Africa or Australia.
Many had hoped the Square Kilometre Array Organisation, based in Manchester UK, would set a date for the construction during meetings in the Netherlands.
But the organisation had only set up a working group to examine the bids for the $1.94 billion project further, which is due to report back in May.
Scientists hope the telescope, which is said to be 50 to 100 times more sensitive than current radio telescopes, will shed light on fundamental questions about the universe.
