Tait appoints new CTO

New Zealand technology company Tait Communications has appointed Ross Spearman as its new chief technology officer (CTO), as the company looks towards strengthening its position in research and development for the critical communications industry.

Spearman, formerly CTO for Ericsson in Seattle, has returned to New Zealand from the US to succeed Trevor Laughton, who will move to the role of general manager of Tait New Zealand.

The company said the appointments reflect a change in leadership roles aligned with its focus on business growth and maintaining global competitiveness in the critical communications market.

“We are operating in a highly competitive, global and rapidly evolving sector that compels a constant focus on the future,” said Tait CEO Garry Diack.

“We welcome Ross as CTO, leading our technology strategy as we continue to grow our future technology offerings for our customers. It is also very gratifying to see Kiwi talent of Ross’s calibre coming back to New Zealand.”

Spearman brings commercial acumen and technological competence to the role, with 10 years of technology development in New Zealand, Austria and the US, as well as 14 years of account management experience with Tier 1 mobile operators in North America.

“I am delighted to be returning home to join Tait,” he said.

“Tait is a New Zealand treasure and I have enjoyed watching the company grow. There are some huge opportunities for us overseas, especially in the US, and I am looking forward to contributing to this growth.”

Spearman will be based at the Tait Technology Centre in Christchurch.
