Airbus Defence and Space TETRA network collaboration
Airbus Defence and Space has collaborated with CSL to modernise the TETRA network of CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd. The project’s implementation will continue over a period of four years on numerous sites in Hong Kong.
The upgraded system, based on the latest TETRA technology, will also offer the possibility to support LTE communications services in the future. Moreover, there is an option for CLP to add secure LTE services, based on the Tactilon Suite product family from Airbus Defence and Space.
CLP set up a TETRA network for the remote control and monitoring of overhead lines in the early 2000s and this technology helps to improve the reliability of CLP’s power supply. The company supplies electricity to around 80% of Hong Kong’s population, owning and operating more than 14,900 km of transmission and high-voltage distribution overhead lines and cables. It also has over 14,200 substations and manages approximately 2.5 million customer accounts in Hong Kong. The company has been using a TETRA network from Airbus Defence and Space since the early 2000s. It was the first 800 MHz system in the world.
Airbus Defence and Space has implemented various TETRA networks in Hong Kong and China in the past, especially for the public security and transport sector in Asia.
