Hytera to supply PDT for Shenzhen police
Hytera has been awarded a 101.9 million-yuan contract to replace the Shenzhen police department’s TETRA communications network with equipment based on the new PDT standard.
The company will provide the Professional Digital Trunking (PDT) system, including terminals and after-sales service, for the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau, with coverage over the entire city.
This will be the first full-scale rollout of a PDT system in China.
The push to develop PDT has been driven by the Information and Telecommunication Bureau of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security. The aim has been to produce a standard that accomplishes the required public safety communications mission while interfacing with China’s police GIS dispatch platform.
Hytera PDT technology is already being used in several locations in China and other countries, including: a multisite PDT system for the Shenzhen Bay Custom and Immigration department; Hong Kong Customs; the Harbin Police department; and one of China’s largest oilfield operators.
The company also has test systems installed in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia.
According to GS Kok, Hytera’s vice president of R&D, PDT is “loosely” based on DMR but with a few extras, such as GPS data handling and an Air Interface Encryption protocol.
