RFUANZ report: he tāngata

When we talk about the communications industry, it’s easy to focus on the technology. The radios. The networks. The antennas. The coverage. But in a country where landscape, distance and demands of essential services can make reliable communications particularly challenging, it is the people behind these systems that really matter.

A technician has solved a problem another organisation is facing. An experienced engineer has knowledge that can benefit someone entering the industry. A supplier may be seeing a technology trend that users have not yet considered. These are the conversations that create connections, share knowledge and strengthen an industry.

Creating more opportunities for those conversations is an important part of what we do. This spring, we’re bringing back ‘Sips ‘n’ Snacks’, our member networking evenings in Christchurch this October and Auckland this November. These relaxed events bring you together with local committee representatives, fellow members and others working across our industry, all over a few drinks and some nibbles.

For RFUANZ members, attendance is free. Simply register through our website. It’s an opportunity to get off the tools, get away from the office and strengthen connections that keep our industry moving.

That same spirit of communication and collaboration extends beyond New Zealand’s borders. This October, members of the RFUANZ committee will be heading across the ditch for Comms Connect Melbourne and the ARCIA Gala Dinner. It’s a chance to catch up with colleagues, meet new people and continue the conversations that connect our industry across the Tasman.

After an eventful Comms Connect Wellington in May, with ministerial speakers, a new venue and the largest exhibition floor yet, Melbourne is shaping up to be another highlight on the annual communications industry calendar. Keep an eye out for the RFUANZ team as we join colleagues, share stories and celebrate the achievements that make this industry what it is.

We are a resilient industry. Providing a highly technical service that is essential to modern life doesn’t come without its challenges, but the requirements remain the same: people need communications they can depend on. As technology continues to evolve, it’s our people who put it to work, drawing on the knowledge, skills and connections built across the industry. We don’t need to predict the future. We need to prepare the people who will build it.
