Brazilian state Maranhao chooses Motorola Solutions
The Maranhao Secretariat of Public Safety in Brazil has digitised its radio communication system with ASTRO 25 standards-based technology from Motorola Solutions, implemented to improve safety for the nearly 1.5 million people who live in the metropolitan region of Sao Luis.
With Motorola Solutions’ APX mobile and portable radios, the authority aims to ensure high-quality audio communications across different emergency service agencies, such as firefighters and civil and military police officers, in an area of around 5000 km2.
The upgrade is intended to provide fast, safe and integrated communications to effectively implement tactical actions amongst public safety personnel to reduce the number of registered crimes.
“This investment will optimise response times by providing instant communication and allowing us to track the geographic location of service vehicles in real time. Before, it was more difficult to communicate because we relied on cell phones,” said Jefferson Portela, secretary of public safety in the state of Maranhao.
The digitisation will provide greater information security by radio encryption technology as well as device location monitoring via GPS, making it possible to quickly identify public safety agents who are close to an incident.
