Power transformers

01 March, 2006 | Siemens Ltd

With its E high-power series, Epcos has introduced a family of transformers that can handle extremely high power densities while taking up less space. The EHP 16, for example, can transfer 25 W, twice that of the commonly used EF16 transformer with the same footprint. The latest transformer series comprises four versions: EHP 16 and EHP 19 as SMDs designed for 25 and 35 W, while the EHP5.0 and EHP 26 are leaded components designed to handle 50 and 100 W. The components' space requirements range from 17 x 23.3 mm to 27 x 27.5 mm. The pre-tinned core can be soldered directly to the circuit board, which ensures good heat transfer and improved cooling.

PCB testing

01 March, 2006 | Power Parameters Pty Ltd

By combining electronic and mechanical testing through mounting the board under test in a cantilevered or two-support beam position and subjecting it to an oscillating force, important reliability information can be gained and incipient failure modes; eg, track breakage, SMD and pin joint failures revealed.

Enclosure range grows

01 March, 2006 | Hammond Electronics Pty Ltd

Hammond Electronics has extended its 1551 family of miniature general-purpose ABS enclosures by adding shallower versions of the existing rectangular version, introducing new square plan sizes in two heights and adding flanged lids which are now available for all plan sizes.
